Sheringham Carnival
Sheringham Carnival Association organise a number of events and entertainment throughout the year. This charitable oranisation is not run by Sheringham Town Council and it made up of volunteers who kindly manage the events, and help to create life long memories to residents and tourists. The Carinval Association’s aim is to promote the town as a holiday destination and to foster our community spirit.
Carnival itself takes place in August. A full programme is made available in local shops and businesses from May onwards, for a small fee. The Carnival will also post them out to you if you contact them.
The Carnival Association is staffed entirely by volunteers, so please help us to continue our work by donating your loose change in the collection buckets.

From an array of events the Carnival arranges these are some favourites:-

Street Races & The Annual Parade
This is one of the liveliest of carnival events and guaranteed to thrill and get you wet! There is a safe zone by the Town clock, where water and flour are banned for more vulnerable people, and also for those who wish to stay dry, Please note eggs and hard objects are prohibited and anyone throwing these will be asked to leave the arena area by the marshals.

Viking Festival
Taking place early in the year. A week of viking themed activities with battles and reenactments culminates in a torch lit parade following the Scira viking ship. A ceremonial boat burning takes places on the beach afterwards.

Classic Car & Bike Show
The Classic Car Festival fills the town with as many as 400 classic cars who park up along the High Street. It is now recognised as one of the best car festivals in East Anglia, and visitors proximity to the cars creates a great atmosphere.

The Crab & Lobster Festival
The Towns of Cromer and Sheringham come together to celebrate our shared fishing heritage.

Raft Race
Home-made rafts crewed by crazy people try to out-paddle each other in pursuit of the winners’ trophy.

Sand Sculpture Competition
Taking advantage of our beautiful seaside location, Sheringham Carnival also have a Sand Sculpture Competition and a Tide Fight down on the beach during Carnival Week.

The Carnival Queen
Every year, Sheringham Carnival select a local lady as ‘Carnival Queen’, as well as two ‘Attendants’ and a ‘Prince’ and ‘Princess’. This ‘royal’ family has duties including: presenting prizes to competition winners, visiting senior citizens at some of the town’s care homes and representing Sheringham at Cromer Carnival.

Much More Than Just The Carnival…
Sheringham Carnival also help to host a range of fantastic events throughout the year. These include;

1940’s Weekend
The North Norfolk Railway hosts a 1940s Weekend in September, with steam train rides and classic buses. Everybody gets dolled up in the fashions of the day and a great time is had by all.

Three Peaks (Norfolk) Challenge
People of all ages scale three local hills to raise money for charity. This also helps underline the fact that, contrary to popular opinion, Norfolk really has some serious hills, with fabulous sea views!

Harley Davidson Bikes Ride-Out
Every year we welcome a large number (typically 400+) of Harley Davidson bikes and their riders to the town centre. These gleaming, throaty Hogs really are a sight to behold.

Vintage Tea Party
This popular annual event is hosted by Sheringham WI and features live entertainment, a vintage quiz and an endless supply of tea, cakes and sandwiches. Make sure you get your tickets early as they sell out quickly. Tickets are available from the Carnival Caravan usually located on Ottendorf Green.

Christmas Lights Switch-On
At the end of November, the kids ride illuminated bikes through the town and gather at the Clock Tower for the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.

Grand Firework Display
Carnival Week itself culminates in a Grand Firework Display, preceded by a torchlight procession through the Town, accompanied by a Lone Piper.
