What a day Sunday 1st September was. It wasn’t a celebration but an acknowledgement that as a town we have survived the sinkhole and to thank those who have helped. One of the reasons we survived was because we came together as a town and a community . That was evident today by all the people who attended and became involved in the sinkhole theme. It was also important that as a town we make the most of the publicity which has come along with the sinkhole and use the completion as the last opportunity to do this. ITV ANGLIA BBC LOOK EAST BBC RADIO NORFOLK ARCHANT AND BBC ONLINE were all there today. Many of their pieces can be seen on our facebook page.

No one is belittling the difficult time traders have had but we had a choice to make the best of it and swim or sink. Today showed we did not allow Sheringham to drown.

Thank yous went to the local Emergency Services and Sheringham Carnival Association for all their help in the immediate aftermath of the sinkhole and most importantly in keeping all our summer events running and encouraging people into the town and providing a great experience despite the sink hole.
Sinkhole Dave and Karl plus the rest of the Anglian Water team who worked so incredibly hard to get a complicated engineering project done as quickly as possible. Also the AW staff who supported the businesses and were instrumental in getting information to Deputy Mayor Liz Withington in order to get updates out to the town, press and business community and Chamber of trade NNDC and Norfolk County Council
Graham Dean’s who has been a great support to the Deputy Mayor from the outset.
In terms of the Street Party  special thanks are due again to Carnival- in particular the logistics team ( Val Tony,Ian Linda and Stuart) and Paula Prince, Rock the Lobster Papworths, Sainsburys
Craft Bakery Trawler the Lobster and STC councillors who helped with the setting up and clearing. Anglian Water for providing the prizes for the best decorated table and helping the Mayor to judge what was an extremely difficult task.
Most importantly thank you to all the town visitors and helpers who came.
