Liz Withington

Liz Withington

Liz moved to Sheringham in 1994 when her husband’s work brought them to the area. Growing up abroad in Germany and Spain and with many moves Sheringham is the first place, where she felt she has put down roots. Both of her sons grew up here and have attended local schools and benefited from being part of, what she believes is a strong, caring and thriving community. During the Pandemic Liz realised  the need to provide community support and increase community connectivity and initiated Sheringham Community Support, which she continues to be active in co-ordinating.

A background in family business, one of which her own family have continued, and in education gives her a wide range of interests and an understanding of how the services offered by the town impact on the future development of the town, its community and local economy. Liz feels it’s vitally important that the council actively engage with the local community and have an understanding of the priorities of the community they represent, in order to be able to give strong direction in moving the town forward.  This is not about party politics. Liz feels the most important role of Sheringham Town Council is to prioritise, represent and resolve local issues across all ages. Liz initiated the Town Centre Development Group and is passionate about bringing all the town organisations to work  together to support our independent town centre and local economy.

Prior to becoming a Town Councillor in 2015, Liz has always been involved in community groups and activities. This has ranged from local youth football, Ladybird pre-school nursery, The WI and Carnival. More recently she has been leading on, and is passionate about, helping Sheringham to become a  Dementia Friendly Community (SDFC), initiated Sheringham Plastic Aware and achieved Plastic Free Coastline status for the town with SPA. Liz is also a lead and active in Sustainable Sheringham.

Liz is also a North Norfolk District Councillor for Sheringham North.
