Sinkhole update 03-07-2019

Anglian Water have now dug down eight metres inside the Sheringham sinkhole to reach the sewer pipe, which is significantly damaged. The next step will be to assess the full extent of the damage and plan the necessary repair, to give a more accurate idea of timescales. Anglian Water are continuing to work 7 days and teams have worked longer hours in order to ensure the work is being completed as fast as possible Once the repair is complete highways will be completing the back fill of the hole and reinstating the road surface.

The pedestrian access is now open on both sides of the road- which was a priority of Anglian Water and all businesses now have access in order to be able to operate. Signage indicating the parking spaces is arriving in the town funded as a partnership between Anglian Water and Highways. The 30 minute free car parking spaces supported by NNDC are also operational on Morris Street.

There have been considerable difficulties with regard to the bottom end of town in regard to refuse and recycling as vehicles have not been able to gain access as a result of the low bridges on alternative routes. The Town council have resolved this with support from NNDC who have come up with a temporary solution. Similar issues are being experienced with deliveries to this part of town.

All Carnival events will be going ahead. Thanks to the hard work of the Carnival association the Events Team have redeveloped all the planning/operational and risk assessment documentation to ensure the events can run safely and smoothly. The town is very much looking forward to the Potty Festival this weekend the 6/7 of July with up to 40 Morris dance sides visiting from all over the UK and Europe. Shortly after the Harleys will be riding into town – so with the sun shining and some fantastic events to look forward to plus our independent and interesting high street  and beautiful Blue Flag Beaches…. Sheringham is very much open for business.
